Fountains and sculptures by Michael Gitter
Water. We are born in it, and it keeps us alive. We need it for our crops, and we bathe, swim, cook and drink it. It.s the source of life.  And yet, water is oftentimes deadly.  Tsunamis and hurricanes show just some of the destructive power.  Even when rains come to the driest parts of the earth, there is damage and death.  Water gives us life, and also brings death.

Water is a resource in danger. Melting ice caps may bring more floods, and pollution and drought has caused severe water shortages, not just in Africa and other arid climates, but right here in the US. It has been said that "The wars of the 21st century will be fought over water".

Water in the form of fountains is a source of awe and balance. About trying to control the flow of a natural element to which I know we have little chance of controlling.  It is about the sound and the stillness.  The peacefulness and beauty.  The rage and danger.

Water is what I think about when I want to be still.  The afternoon surf, a peaceful lake, a quiet rain. And of course a beautiful fountain.  I am a water sign, born a Cancer on July 20, 1961.  And all my life, I dreamed of fountains, water, pools, and the ocean.  Everything about water including the sound, smell, look and feeling it gave me.

Water also scares me in two irrational ways:  I hate lakes and won.t swim in them.  And I am wildly afraid of buoys http://www.michaelgitter.com/?p=66#more-66. (I admit, it.s a strange phobia).

Water is my passion:  While I have gone off and done a lot of business projects over the years, at my core, and my .foundation. I have always wanted to be an artist. I love fountains and want to design them, create them, install them and watch people enjoying them.  This is my truest passion.  There are never enough fountains in this world, and while I am here, I want to prove that.  I really hope you like www.fountation.com.
